Summer Race Series

These series are for all ages and abilities who want to get into racing in a competitive but fun, social atmosphere. These run from mid/late June to September and are open to all monohull and multihull sailboats under 20ft. The season is split up into two series, typically 5 weeks each. The races run every Saturday, with some exceptions, so please refer to our calendar for specific dates.

The races are free and open to all current club members and those taking our Cansail 3/4 lessons. Sign up is done in-person before the race briefing.

The race day starts at 12:00pm with the race briefing with the first race starting at 1:00pm. We aim for 3 races (weather permitting) and try to wrap things up by 3-3:30pm.

We also offer an optional $10 lunch at 12:00pm. We do ask that you sign up and pay for the lunch in person before 11:45am so we can plan and organize the lunch in a timely manner.

We do ask that participants know the right of way rules and the starting sequence and flags before joining the races.

For those that are just beginning or need a refresher on the rules, volunteering to help with running the races is a great opportunity to get a guided, first-hand experience of running races from the committee boat while also contributing to membership volunteer hours.

If you are interested in volunteering for the race committee, please email fleetcaptain@sosailing.ca.

In addition to volunteering for the race committee, we also host race rules refresher days typically at the start of each series. Our race committee will review the rules and start sequence and answer any questions you may have. These refresher days generally involve getting out on the water for practicing starts and maneuvers so you are all ready to go when it’s race day!
